Thanksgiving Give Back: Adopt a Family Initiative

This Thanksgiving the Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation is ready to continue our mission of serving the community by adopting 3 families in need.

We were able to reach out to the Triangle Non Profit and Volunteer Center and join their long standing Thanksgiving Dinner Sponsor Program in partnership with Durham County Social Services.

We believe that everyone deserves to experience the warmth of the holiday season, and through this initiative, we aim to provide nourishing meals and other essentials to brighten their Thanksgiving.

Our Foundation is committed to bringing communities together and this project reflects our dedication to making an impact where it is needed most. By adopting families we are not just providing food – we’re sharing hope, gratitude, and the spirit of giving.

Stay connected with us to learn more about how you can get involved and help spread kindness this holiday season. Together, we can make Thanksgiving a time of celebration for Everyone!

Misstakenid Foundation Honors Legacy with Special Event for Seniors & Veterans in Roxboro, NC

The Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation recently hosted its very first event for the Misstakenid Heroes & Elder Alliance at Canterbury House in Roxboro, NC. In honor of our founder’s late father, Wallace L. Umstead, we brought the community together for a memorable cookout, filled with food, music, and great company.

With a DJ setting the tone for a fun afternoon, seniors and veterans at The Canterbury House enjoyed a day of celebration, laughter, and connection. This event was all about creating new memories while honoring the legacy of those who came before us. We are grateful to everyone who attended and helped make this day special.

We look forward to continuing to serve our Senior & Veteran community through more heartwarming events like this one!

hello community!

As the founder of the Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation, I am constantly inspired by the power of collective action and the profound impact we can make when we come together. Our mission is to create meaningful community service experiences that leave lasting impressions, and we can’t do it alone. We’re reaching out to you, our community, to ask for your support as volunteers in various capacities. Whether you can spare a few hours for an in-person service project, help with development and fundraising, or assist with general administrative tasks, your time and skills are invaluable to us.

in person service projects

Our in-person service projects are at the heart of what we do. These projects range from providing meals to the homeless to senior support, veteran/patient advocacy and skill building workshops. We believe in creating opportunities that allow people to make a significant impact in a short amount of time. If you have a few hours to spare and a passion for hands-on community service, we would love to have you join us on the ground.

Sustaining our initiatives requires resources, and this is where your help can be transformative. We are looking for volunteers with a knack for fundraising, grant writing, and event planning to support our development efforts. Your expertise can help us secure the necessary funding to continue our mission and expand our reach. IF you want to host a fundraiser for our organization, let us know!

general administrative support

Behind every successful organization is a strong administrative team. We need volunteers to assist with tasks such as data entry, social media management, and communications. If you have organizational skills and a few hours to contribute each week, your support can help ensure our operations run smoothly and efficiently.

INTRODUCING OUR NEW SERVICE OFFERING: MISSTAKENID HEROES & ELDER ALLIANCE

At Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation we are deeply committed to honoring the legacy of our Founder’s late Father Wallace L. Umstead a senior and Army Veteran. Inspired by the care and advocacy that he received from his daughter A. Umstead, we are proud to announce our newest service offering the Misstakenid Heroes & Elder Alliance.

Patient advocacy workshops & collaborations

Understanding patient advocacy is crucial, especially for our seniors and veterans who may not have the support they need. Through our workshops and collaborative efforts we aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to advocate effectively for their loved ones. Whether you’re new to advocacy or looking to enhance your skills, our sessions will provide valuable insights and practical guidance.

support for seniors

In addition to helping with advocacy training, we are committed to bringing joy and companionship to our seniors. Our volunteers will visit elder care facilities, offering their time and companionship to brighten the days of residents. A friendly conversation, a shared story, or simply a listening ear can make a world of difference.

At Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation we believe in the power of community and the importance of support. Through the Misstakenid Heroes & Elder Alliance, we strive to provide the resources and compassion needed to uplift our seniors and veterans.

Join us in making a difference. Together we can ensure that every senior and veteran receives the care, respect, and happiness they deserve.

Our 5th Annual Feed the Homeless/Hungry Holiday Breakfast Dec 7, 2023 was a Success!!

We had a chance to go back to where we started feeding large groups, Urban Ministries of Durham for our 5th Annual Feed the Homeless and Hungry Holiday Breakfast.

We had a great time serving in the community and we were able to provide a hearty meal to 230 people that are either suffering from homelessness, food insecurity or both.

Not only did we purchase items our team also worked the industrial kitchen and prepared a delicious breakfast menu consisting of turkey sausage, turkey bacon, grits, hasbrowns, eggs, fruit, breakfast pastries, juice, coffee, water. Aside from preparing the breakfast we helped pass out lunch bags that were also donated from other organizations.

The population that we served was very thankful and expressed gratitude. As a treat, we had our resident DJ, Tobias Mayor Morrison spinning the holiday hits while they enjoyed their meal. This brought great joy to all and contributed to the wonderful experience.

We would love to thank all of those that volunteered their time and a special thanks to all of the individuals that gave monetary donations.

We would also like to thank our community sponsors for this event : Indulge Catering and WEGMANS.

It really takes a village and numerous donations to prepare a meal for over 200 people. If you would like to donate to future events for 2024 please click on our donation page!

WE will continue this event in 2024, and it will take place on December 6, 2024 in Durham, NC.

Our 2nd International Service Project: Visit w/ Huellas De Pan Cancun, Mexico September 2023

Our 2nd International Service Project! Can you believe it???

We had the amazing opportunity to return to Huellas De Pan in Cancun, Mexico for our 2nd International Service Project. We had some amazing sponsors/friends/volunteers to accompany us on this adventure. We were able to provide our friends at Huellas de Pan with some much needed supplies such as food items to help feed the 250+ children that come to their location weekly and replaced the broken large containers/totes that help them w/ pickups and deliveries of food. These supplies will help them continue to fight food insecurity for school aged children in Cancun, Mexico.

During our visit not only were we able to pick up and deliver supplies. We were able to help the children practice their English, which was a delight as they were so excited to utilize their skills. We also helped serve lunch, which let us know how much of an impact Huellas de Pan has in the community as they were able to make foods stretch for the masses and children were able to eat as much as they wanted for lunch. They asked if I would make a special meal the next time we came.

We were so thankful for this opportunity to serve! Before we left the staff already asked if we would come back next year!

(So we need to do some fundraising for the project for next year 😉 )

If you would like to donate to future projects, please let us know. We accept donations via Paypal and Check. With your help/support we can make it back to Huellas de Pan in 2024!

CANCUN 2023! Continuing our International Volunteer Projects

We are thrilled to be traveling back to Cancun, Mexico SEPTEMBER 2023, to continue our international volunteer project with Huellas De Pain. On our second journey back to the organization’s headquarters we plan on providing them with much needed supplies to help serve the children of the area.

Huellas De Pain is an organization in Cancun that helps fight food insecurity, provides after school support to children, as well as a food pantry for the local area.

If you would like to contribute to the supplies that we will be taking to them, please donate to our PAYPAL.

Below you can view some of the photos from our first international service project in Cancun, Mexico.
