A Season of Gratitude and Giving: Our Thanksgiving Sponsorship Program

As the leaves fall and the air grows crisp, Thanksgiving reminds us to pause and count our blessings. For the Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation, it’s also a time to extend those blessings to others.

This year, we’re proud to launch our Thanksgiving Family Sponsorship Program with a goal to adopt 5 families in need. To achieve this goal we are working with the Triangle Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership Center in conjunction with the local DSS. Each family will receive groceries and essentials to prepare a warm Thanksgiving meal, along with the comfort of knowing their community cares.

Many families face tough choices during the holidays — between bills and food, between wants and needs. Our mission is to make sure gratitude fills their homes just as much as good food fills their tables.

We’re calling on our friends, partners, and supporters to join us in this effort. You can:

Sponsor a family to cover their full Thanksgiving meal

Donate any amount to help us reach our goal

Share our mission with others who may want to give

When we give together, we create ripples of hope that last far beyond one meal.

Help us remind these families that community is stronger when we show up for one another.

Let’s make this Thanksgiving one to remember — filled with gratitude, generosity, and love.

Thanksgiving Give Back: Adopt a Family Initiative

This Thanksgiving the Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation is ready to continue our mission of serving the community by adopting 3 families in need.

We were able to reach out to the Triangle Non Profit and Volunteer Center and join their long standing Thanksgiving Dinner Sponsor Program in partnership with Durham County Social Services.

We believe that everyone deserves to experience the warmth of the holiday season, and through this initiative, we aim to provide nourishing meals and other essentials to brighten their Thanksgiving.

Our Foundation is committed to bringing communities together and this project reflects our dedication to making an impact where it is needed most. By adopting families we are not just providing food – we’re sharing hope, gratitude, and the spirit of giving.

Stay connected with us to learn more about how you can get involved and help spread kindness this holiday season. Together, we can make Thanksgiving a time of celebration for Everyone!

Success Looks Different for Everyone-Fireside Chat Workshop Returns

We are thrilled to announce the second iteration of the Success Looks Different for Everyone Fireside Chat Workshop Series, coming back to the Families Moving Forward in Durham, NC on October 16, 2024!

At Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation we believe that success comes in many forms, and this workshop epitomizes our goal of providing professional skill development in underserved communities. The first workshop series was an incredible experience for the participants and we’re excited to continue the conversation with previous participants, as well as start the conversation with new participants, bringing together community members to explore how consistency and resilience shape our unique paths to success.

This series is more that a workshop. It is a space where individuals can connect, share their stories, and leave with a renewed sense of purpose. We can’t wait to engage with the families at Families Moving Forward once again and continue spreading the message that Success Looks Different for Everyone!

We had an amazing time planning and executing the first Valentine’s Luncheon Event at UMD.

We prepared an Italian style Meal on Feb 14, 2020.

Our team of volunteers was able to cook and serve a meal for 75 people from the homeless community and were able to have a great experience networking with each other while doing so. We set up the room, covered the tables and decorated to make the experience complete.

MGB Foundation Presents the “First Annual Holiday Breakfast Buffet” at UMD in Durham, NC Dec 22, 2019

WE were able to prepare and serve our first annual holiday breakfast buffet at UMD in Durham, NC. We served an amazing meal to 175 people from the homeless population in Durham, NC.

We also had a special guest DJ Mr. Tobias “Mayor” Morrison providing a Holiday mix soundtrack for the event.

Of course, none of this would be possible without an amazing group of volunteers.

MGB Foundation presents “Sandwich Shop” Feed the Homeless/ Hungry Lunch Event at UMC Charlotte, NC- August 17, 2019

WE were able to hit the road and do a “Pop up” in Charlotte, NC at UMC Charlotte August 17, 2019. This was a great time as we were able to do our first ever “sandwich shop”, this concept allows patrons to get 3 sandwiches, soup, chips, drinks, ice cream, as their meal in a nice environment.

We were able to serve 200 people and it was an amazing experience. As we were in a new city we were able to grow our volunteer base and work with some great people that had never worked with us before.

As you know we can’t do anything without our volunteers.

MGB Foundation Presents: “Restaurant Night” April 27, 2019 at UMD in Durham, NC

WE decided to do our first ever “Restaurant Night” at UMD in Durham, NC on April 27, 2019. This was a special occasion as we covered the tables and decorated with some amazing balloon decorations to provide a restaurant feel. For the patrons from the homeless community we had entertainment provided by a featured a string quartet from The Durham Symphony Orchestra.

We prepared and served a nice meal to 198 people from the homeless population with the help of some amazing volunteers.

We did community work before we were organized as a foundation.

Every nonprofit starts off with an idea and a dream. Our founder has believed in community service her entire life. One day she woke up and decided to start organizing projects and events to help out in the community and that is where we were born. Prior to organizing as a foundation, she setup a few events in the Durham, NC community and realized that she could do these events in different towns across the state of NC. A few of those events are highlighted below.

On August 17, 2017, our founder decided to organize a Spaghetti Dinner at UMD Durham for 200 people. She didn’t know where the donations would come from or if people would even help the cause, but she set out to complete her goal and started asking her friends to help. They all came with donations and to help out and the concept of preparing large meals to feed the homeless/ hungry population became something that she knew that she could do.

As the first event was a success our founder decided to try another style of event this time preparing food as if it was a “cookout”, this went over very well. On one night in March of 2018 her team of volunteers served 230 people at UMD in Durham, NC

As the cookout style was a “hit” our founder tried it again. The goal was to feed 200 people and the numbers came in at 182 people served and fed on this great day in August of 2018.

When something works and you know how to execute it well, you keep doing it. Our founder found something that she was good at doing. That was serving in the community and bringing people together.

One thing is for sure, you don’t have to be a foundation to serve people, but we are glad that we took the time to organize this foundation to help serve across NC and in the future, figure out how to “pop up” all over the United States of America.

OH, but we can’t forget, none of this would be possible without volunteers and donations!
